Organization: International Federation of Red Cross And Red Crescent Societies
Closing date: 10 Jul 2021

Purpose of Project and Background

The global vision of IFRCs Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH) Unit is: ‘To ensure that universal, equitable and affordable access to WASH services, from emergency response to sustainable development, is achieved as a human right and one that impacts positively upon health, dignity and wellbeing’. In order to achieve this vision, innovative efforts that ensure individuals of different ages, disabilities, gender identities and backgrounds are included in the process, is crucial.

The WASH unit is committed to develop and disseminate new tools and guidance that can support WASH practitioners at every step of the program cycle. The website – the Watsanmission assistant –ensures access to up-to-date WASH guidelines and tools whenever needed. The website has become widely known among Red Cross Red Crescent WASH colleagues (as well as external partners) and a large community has come to rely on it.

The Watsanmission assistant website was created over 10 years ago and was originally hosted by Wikispaces. In 2018 the website was migrated to WordPress. As part of this migration process, the layout and functionality of some pages has been impacted. Over time, more subject areas, resources and tools have been added to the website and some documents/pages are now outdated.

Project objectives

Layout and design of the website www.watsanmissionassistant.org

The IFRC WASH team is looking to review the layout of the WordPress website by the end of September 2021, ensuring consistency with other related resources (such as the new IFRC WASH page currently under development) and the WASH strategic pillars. **

Desired outcomes

The IFRC WASH team are looking to review and update the layout and content of the Watsanmission assistant Wordpress website by the end of November2021, ensuring consistency with other related resources (such as the new IFRC WASH page) and that the widely used online resource is user-friendly, easy-to-navigate, aesthetically appealing and logical for WASH colleagues to find the information they need easily either on computer, tablet or phone.

The current website:

· Approximately 45 pages with diverse amount of content in each page. The nature of the content is mainly PDF or word documents and video links. Some pages contain diagrams/pictures and tables.

· Hosted in WordPress and maintained by non-IT staff.

Consultancy outputs

Outputs required:

· Review of the website layout and proposal for improvements to layout and structure:

  • Analysing whether the current layout is the most appropriate or if other Wordpress layouts might be more fit for purpose (no upgrade of plan is foreseen and need to be editable without any IT skills e.g. no or limited use of coding);

  • Develop recommendations for proposed structure and layout of the website, to ensure consistency, easy navigation and logical presentation of information for technical staff (may involve several mock-ups or options to be presented to the IFRC WASH team).

· Reorganization of the website content. This will include:

  • Reorganizing pages in a consistent manner: this will include both proposing a strategic way for reorganizing the website pages and edit the content in a more organized manner to make the website more user-friendly. IFRC will have an internal workshop to go through pages and identify which ones should stay, can be deleted or should be merged with others as well as identify which documents can be deleted or must be updated.

  • Deleting outdated documents/pages, merging pages (where relevant) and uploading new resources (this will be guided by input provided by IFRC, following an workshop with key WASH staff);

  • Ensuring that modifications provided to the website will be sustainable over time and if needed, train a member of the WASH team on basic design competencies.**

  • Ensure a search function on the site
