The Grant writer consultant will support the Americas Partnerships and Resource Development unit and the Health Unit to develop partnerships and mobilize resources for programmes, specifically for Health programming and Health components in operations. This will include support for the submission of high-quality funding applications, supporting reporting and donor accountability.
Funding development (30%)
- Support PRD and Health to take proactive measures to increase funding coverage of the IFRC Health Programs for the Americas.
- Support PRD coordination of proposal and funding application development as appropriate to institutional and corporate donors and other agencies.
- Contribute to the development and revision of the IFRC Health programs from PRD perspective, ensuring that donor concerns and interests are addressed.
Grant Writing (70%)
- Develops proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation.
- With the Health Unit’s technical input, writes, revises, and edits drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
- In close coordination with the relevant Health Unit members, determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposal (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings.
- Prepares presentation by evaluating text, graphics, and binding and coordinating printing.
- Maintains quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support databases.
- Obtains approvals by reviewing proposal with key providers and project managers.
- Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate.
- Meets proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering writing, review, approval, and transmittal.
- Enters and monitors tracking data.
- Coordinates requirements with contributors and contributes proposal status information to review meetings.
- Gathers proposal information by identifying sources of information, coordinating submissions and collections, and identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals.
Contract processes
- Support the PRD team with contractual processes once grants are approved in coordination with Legal, Finance and PMER.
Other support
- Contribute to the development of communication and marketing materials from resource mobilization perspective.
- Provide support to information sharing mechanisms, including partners’ call conferences (e.g. WebEx sessions), information sessions for the diplomatic community, meetings, minutes and other information documents.
- Support the operational planning process.
- Contribute to reporting processes for various donor audiences
- Prepare Due Diligence for new corporate partners.
- Contribute to effective resource development and management performance
- Be accountable to the Head of PRD and Head of Health unit by providing progress reports on results against objectives and risk analysis.
- Contribute to the daily and overall good functioning of the PRD Department for the period of the assignment
Product of the Consultancy
- The consultant will generate two EOI/proposals per month minimum. Total amount for the three months are 6 EOI /proposals
Management of the Consultancy
- The consultant reports directly to the Head of health and Care, and the technical reporting line is to the Head of PRD Unit.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, Law, or related field.
Experience
- Desirable experience in formulating notes and proposals in the field of health projects and programs.
- Knowledge of the particularities of health interventions in humanitarian action as well as of the main coordination forums at the health level in the Americas region is desirable.
- Minimum of 2-year experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or a minimum of 2 years comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting.
