JOB PURPOSE
The Health Senior Officer is expected to deliver specialized support to ensure Migrant Cell and National Societies that are part of the migratory routes have the capacity to respond adequately to the health needs of migrant populations. The health Senior Officer will contribute to the (1) Planning, implementation and evaluation of regional programs to strengthen the capacities of National Societies to provide health care and psycho social support to migrant populations (2) ensure continued coordination between regional and national Red Cross programs working on health care and psycho social support to migrant populations (3) ensure ongoing and high level coordination with external partners (4) develop and innovate tools to support the quality implementation health activities to migrant populations (5) provide operational support when required in the field 5) broker and develop knowledge that supports internal and external learning in best practice
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the main technical reference of Health in implementing the Health interventions proposed by the Migration Cell.
- Support the Migration Cell in designing, planning, implementing and evaluating health programs, projects and activities aimed at the migrant population.
- Support the Migration Cell in coordinating with international agencies providing health responses with the aim of strengthening effectiveness of the Movement responses and preventing duplicated efforts.
- Support the National Societies, that are responding operationally to humanitarian challenges in migration corridors in coordinating, strategic planning and designing effective actions that will respond to health needs from migrant population.
- Identify strategies that can strengthen health capacities of the National Societies and propose a plan of action to achieve the objective
- Support training and capacity building of the National Societies (that are part of the migratory routes) staff/volunteers for health and PSS activities in favor of the migrant population.
- Support the National Societies in coordinating with national and international agencies that are responding to the emergency in the health sector, including local cluster organizations that are providing health services;
- Other tasks as may be assigned by the Line Manager.
EDUCATION
- Health Professional (Doctor, Nurse, Psychologist, Social Work, Pharmaceutic)
- Post graduate in public health or equivalent experience
- Training in health in emergencies with Red Cross, preferred
EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years experience in health in emergencies/Development
- 3+ years previous experience in response to Emergencies of the Red Cross / Red Crescent/Knowledge in the tools of disaster management
- Experience with National Societies of the Red Cross
- Experience in community-based health work and social mobilisation

LANGUAGE
- Fluent spoken and written English
