Job Purpose
The Senior Officer, Learning and Knowledge Management, will enhance systems to promote the effective use of information and the institutionalized management of information and knowledge products at the Red Cross Caribbean Disaster Risk Management Reference Centre (CADRIM), hosted by the Barbados Red Cross Society. The successful applicant will improve the performance and sustainability of disaster risk management and health capacity development initiatives in the sub-region through more effective and institutionalized approaches to the generation, collection, processing, management and dissemination of knowledge products and other information-related materials as well as support quality control of replication and cascading trainings. Learning and Knowledge Management are central to the core business of the CADRIM Reference Centre. Therefore, the post holder is expected to demonstrate competency in understanding, assessing and anticipating the knowledge needs of the users of the Reference Centre.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree/academic credentials in knowledge management, learning, social sciences or related field is required
Experience
- 3+ years’ experience working in knowledge management, learning and/or research
- Experience in working with volunteers or civil society organizations an asset, as well as experience of another culture (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship);
- 3+ years work experience developing training curricula (including e-learning)
- 3+ years’ professional experience in project management in the humanitarian or development fields
- Experience of an active role in knowledge management activities, demonstrating the motivation, necessary knowledge and skills to help lead knowledge management, including the development of related processes and tools
- 3+ years working experience in an international organization is an advantage as is knowledge of IFRC policies, procedures and practices.

- Competent in computer use (Windows, spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, Internet, Adobe CS6, etc.)
- Skills in training and developing staff capacity
- Excellent skills in networking with other agencies and organisations
- Able to adapt and resolve problems due to changing situations
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Initiative to research and develop new content;
- Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;
- Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
- Motivated to contribute towards development and to serve others;
- Good understanding of the Regional Reference Centres of the IFRC, their role and methodologies;
- Knowledge of Caribbean context and Red Cross National Societies in the region;
- Understanding and practice of the Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement - preferred
Languages:
- Fluently spoken and written English
- Good command of another IFRC official language (Spanish, French), or a language relevant in the region (Dutch) - Preferred **
