Organizational Context
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 192-member National Societies. The overall aim of the IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” The IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises.
The IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (Movement), together with its member National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The work of the IFRC is guided by the following fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
The IFRC is led by its Secretary General, and has its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Headquarters are organized into three main Divisions: (i) National Society Development and Operations Coordination; (ii) Global Relations, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization; and (iii) Management Policy, Strategy and Corporate Services. The IFRC has five regional offices in Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
The IFRC also has country cluster delegation and country delegations throughout the world. Together, the Geneva Headquarters and the field structure (regional, cluster and country) comprise the IFRC Secretariat.
This role sits within the IFRC Country Cluster Delegation (CCD) based in Indonesia, covering Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, and Timor-Leste. The Head of the CCD also serves as IFRC’s representative to ASEAN.
The NSD Intern will assist the National Society Development Manager in managing the administrative aspects and in supporting the programmatic aspects of the National Society Development program/projects/activities/initiatives. The NSD intern will be working closely with the NSD Manager, liaising with the National Societies and may also support other activities of the Development and Quality Assurance Unit in general as needed.
Job Purpose
The NSD Intern plays a supporting role for managing the administrative aspects and working on the programmatic aspects of the National Society Development project/program/activities/initiatives to facilitate the National Society capacity building and organizational development objectives.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Support to the NSD Manager in the area of administration and program management:
- Administration:
- Prepare and manage Travel Order, Requisition, Consultant recruitment and selection, Project Agreement, arrangement of Translation, Meetings/Workshop, Procurement, Transportation, and other Logistical needs, as per IFRC procedures.
- Provide quick translation as needed for short documents and/or during meetings.
- Maintain proper inventory, filing and recording systems of NSD program/project at shared folder.
- Any other assignment in relation to this internship as directed by the line manager
- Program Management:
- Process scoping study as per give theme.
- Support National Society Development work from planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of project/program, which is not limited to the area of Finance Development, Human Resource Development, Youth and Volunteer Development, Resource Mobilization Development, and PMER/Project Management.
- Prepare minutes of meeting and/or program documentation.
- Any other assignment in relation to this internship as directed by the line manager
Education
- Relevant university degree or equivalent knowledge in social and politic science, communication, humanities or other humanitarian studies;
- Relevant professional training courses (Red Cross/Red Crescent related, humanitarian and development sector, management, etc.);
- Knowledge on humanitarian diplomacy is preferred.
Experience
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in project management;
- Minimum of 1 year work experience/volunteering with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, including time in the field and/or with a National Society is preferred;
- Knowledge on HCST system in Indonesia and Humanitarian Coordination in Timor-Leste is preferred;
- Knowledge on HCST system in Indonesia and Humanitarian Coordination in Timor-Leste;
- Experience of planning and managing finances and budgets.
Knowledge, Skills and Languages
- Self-supporting in computers (Windows, spreadsheets, word-processing, email, etc.);
- Able to work under minimum supervision and have strong initiative on developing partnership;
- Able to work well in a multicultural team and in a changing environment;
- Fluently spoken and written English;
- Fluently spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia;
