This internship opportunity is within the newly created Human Resources Advisory Services and Communities of Expertise Unit, Human Resources Management Department (HRMD), which is primarily located in Geneva, Switzerland. It will report to the Manager, Human Resources Advisory Services and the Communities of Expertise Unit. Close guidance will be provided by the manager and relevant team members as this is a development opportunity. The selected individual will be required to develop positive working relations across all HRMD functions and demonstrate a proactive attitude. This internship opportunity is foreseen to last for six months. As the location of the opportunity is to be determined, applications on a global scale will be entertained.
Purpose
The main purpose of this internship is to provide substantive contributions and structure to the various work portfolios, relationships and services managed by the Unit, such as organizational design, advisory services, employee relations, talent development and management, reports as well as HRMD and IFRC-wide projects. At the same time, this internship will provide the selected individual with exposure to working in a dynamic, international, humanitarian organization as well as an opportunity to put theory into practice.
Responsibilities
The following tasks and responsibilities are currently envisioned for this internship opportunity.
- Explore ideas and methods that will help support and strengthen the delivery of client-facing activities and initiatives designed and implemented by the Unit. Review processes that involve the advisory services and communities of expertise and recommend improvements. Identify and propose tools and guidance to improve comprehension, access, self-service and implementation.
- Conduct needs assessments and trend analyses in partnership with other HRMD Units, seeking input from managers and directors, as relevant. Distil meaningful insights applicable to HRMD.
- Assist in quantitative and qualitative benchmarking and best practices research on a variety of HRMD topics, including consulting with relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in and conduct work for cross-functional or inter-departmental projects, such as inclusion and diversity, performance management or conduct.
- Prepare and finalize draft internal communications and reports on specific issues as indicated by the supervisors, including development of charts, graphs.
- Contribute to the design of in person trainings and webinars on a variety of subjects such as workforce planning, employee relations, drafting job descriptions and performance management.
- Carry out administrative work as and when needed, such as the monitoring of internal workflows to ensure timely delivery of services, the establishment of templates and other activities to strengthen the nascent structure.
Requirements for Success
- Recent college graduate, i.e., within one year at time of application, with at a minimum, a first level University Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Public Administration or Public Policy, or similar field from a recognized educational facility or academic institution. An advanced academic degree would be an advantage.
- Some practical knowledge of HR principles and/or business management.
- Knowledge of current developments and global trends linked to the employee life cycle.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Business Intelligence, Python or Canva or other visual and graphic tools and software.
- Ability to use Excel, Power Point and/or any other analytics and presentations tools.
- A desire to grow and develop a career with HR and learn about all the different disciplines within HR.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Good command of another IFRC official language (Arabic, French or Spanish) is preferred.
- Strong drafting skills and an analytical mind.
- Proven versatility and a thirst for knowledge and development.
- Experience producing reports and reviewing processes.
- People oriented and able to build relationships with a diverse team.
- Proactive and enthusiastic, never afraid to propose new ideas with a fresh, innovative mindset and a "can-do" approach.
- Attention to details, time management and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with the RCRC Movement a plus.
